What the Fuck Experimental Mystery School
When I look around with my eyes closed, if you know what I mean, I see people shrugging their shoulders in some part of them and say or think “what the fuck?” about all kinds of things whether personal or in the culture we swim in. Things don’t seem to make sense. Why is that? Because we have experienced a slow-moving paradigm shift connected to the whole underlying basis for the culture we live in. The foundation seems to no longer be there so that it feels like the bottom is slowly dropping out. It is happening to everybody even those in denial or only those who are only semi-conscious and it will be increasingly harder to make it all go away.
In order to handle this new situation we have no choice but to be “experimental.” Even if we wanted to pursure traditional remedies in life it’s a weak response that may not work anymore. If these remedies to work, they work because either: a) a deeper truth is revealed which is then a way of discovering the new rock is upon which to build your church; or b) the comfort of habit that can soothe the agitated heart for a while until the problem crops up in another form. Through hard-won experience we find our way–endless mistakes and wrong turns for sure but the reward is that you get to discover a new continent. Even if you don’t find much, it is through this process of running experiments that your efforts will have created a map that you can share with others on the same path. These efforts also create a store of energy that is buoyant and will lift you over troubles that would have sunk your ship before you went through this process.
The word “mystery” has a strange connotation in our society. Mystery is often associated with the fictional genre of “mysteries.” The story follows a pattern: somebody is killed and the effort to find out who killed the person is confusing and paradoxical. Then as we come close the end, the tension increases and anything could happen and then suddenly it all fits together–normalicy returns–the cops have their man or woman, and we can breathe easy because we are taken care of which feels good. We the audience got to be excited in a safe space for awhile. Real mystery is something very different. It is the deepest truth. Imagine a very large pool that is almost endlessly deep and we are going to have to jump in it but we don’t know how to swim. Mystery is kind of like that–it’s fucking scary when faced head on–looks very much like a void; however, as I indicated above, the efforts (not the results) we make in experimenting give us a certain buoyancy on the psychic level that allows us to confront mystery and not get swallowed up. Mystery is reality. We cannot know everything, we cannot know the deepest truths because we see in the limited dimensions we are used to. We can “know” mystery itself but with a different kind of thinking which we do need to look into.
The floor is opening up faster and with greater rapidity and we could use a school to learn the unique methods to deal with this very unique problem we face. My idea of “school” is a little bit different from the normal version of the word. It is not an authoritarian model of a lecturer or instructor “educating” students–it can be that way but that’s not what I’m interested in. This is a different time and we need something a bit different because we are in a crisis of authority. Most authority at this point in history is bogus and depends on force not moral authority; I think increasing numbers of people are sensing the BS yet, at the same time, some kind of standard has to exist while we wait to grow some wings to fly into, around, over, under the abyss. We can’t just follow authority when we don’t believe in it. We can’t just accept rules we don’t understand or believe are fair whether these rules are from the authorities or towards someone or some group determines is an authority. We both crave authority and find it repellent. Thus the school I am speaking of has to deal with authority so that it can be found as it genuinely presents itself at any given moment. Sometimes it falls on one or more persons or perhaps a sort of group consciousness but one of the tasks of this school is to watch for where authority ends up which is why it has to be egalitarian and in the moment. The one who has authority is always you.
